We allย have different bodies and curves. Despite the Ready to Wear industry setting sizes and us designers designing for specific measurements, it's only natural that you are not going to fit those measurements 100%. Don't feel frustrated by that. You just need to learn where your body measurements differ from the ones the designer used, and change the pattern to your own measurements. You can also redesign the pattern so they are more your style, with more or less neckline or even back bottom coverage.

When you're given instructions by the designer that the swimwear patterย was designed to be reversible, then, you should sew it reversible. But, this is also true if the designer states it's a non reversibleย pattern. Why? Well, fabrics have tension and if the pattern was well designed, those tensions around yourย body were calculated so that the final garment fits you and doesn't roll over or fit you to small. It's not the same if you sew a bikini with a non stretch fabric LOL (it wouldn't fit) then if you sew it with 2 layers of swimwear fabric or one plus lining. All these options are valid, but the pattern designer has Ease into consideration when designing the patterns, and that's why you should sew it as stated by the designer.

Elastic is what makes your bikini and swimsuit stay in place when wet. Fabrics tend to expand when wet and without the elasticย you would have troubles stabilising the swimsuit on your body. The elastic should be chlorine resistant and not braided with cotton. The cotton elastic absorbs water and ย takes a long time to dry. With time, it even gets rotten. Make sure you use proper swimwear sewing supplies.

This is 2 in 1! ย Non stretch threads will break once the fabric stretches around you. Non stretch stitches will also break.
But let's explain this a bit better. Every time we sew using stretchy fabrics, like we do on sewing bikini patterns or swimsuit patterns, we have to remember that the entire garment once sewed will fit us snuggly. This is because it has negative ease and specially around your body, the tension is greater. If we do not use polyester threads and elastic stitches like the zig zag stitch or elastic stitches on our overlock all our garnet will be ruined on the first attempt you try to put it on. More about ease on our Blog soon.
